Three spectacular comebacks by teams that found themselves trailing on the scoreboard turned this weekend into an exciting preview of what we can expect in the playoffs. Let’s delve into the most thrilling moments and the teams prepared to battle in the playoffs in this recap of Week 6.
In the BIG-14 Conference, Borregos CCM (3-3) faced off against Aztecas UDLA (1-5) in an exhilarating showdown, resulting in a 31-20 victory for the Borregos. On the other hand, the UVM Linces (2-3) made a convincing return to the winning column as they defeated the Potros UAEM (0-6) with a commanding score of 59-14. Meanwhile, boasting the league’s best defense, the Borregos Monterrey (4-1) dominated the Burros Blancos IPN (2-3) with a score of 37-0. In an equally thrilling match, Tigres UANL found themselves trailing 14-7 in the second quarter but made a strong comeback to secure a 31-21 victory against Leones UAMN. Pumas UNAM (3-3) were plagued by a multitude of injuries sustained during the week. They lost their top cornerback, star running back, and starting center, in addition to the absence of their starting quarterback, Lenny Garza #3, since week one. This string of setbacks left the team severely depleted when they faced off against the Borregos Puebla (3-2), who defeated them with a score of 49-27.
In a spectacular comeback, the Águilas Blancas (5-1) overturned an unfavorable 26-7 halftime score to defeat the Borregos CEM (3-2) by a score of 29-26. Quarterback Mike Patiño #4 shone in this performance, leading his team to a remarkable comeback. Borregos CEM’s defense also put on an outstanding display in the first half with a pick-six and a safety by linebacker Héctor Siller #1.
The most thrilling matchup of the week took place in the National Conference, where the Conference Norte leaders, Águilas UACH (5-1) and Lobos UAC (6-0), clashed in a game filled with multiple lead changes. The outcome was decided in the final moments, with an exhilarating play that saw the Lobos UAC pull off an impressive 70-yard run to take the lead 33-31. However, Águilas UACH came close to securing victory with a 60-yard pass that was stopped at the Lobos’ 2 yard line as time ran out to conclude the game.
Another exciting game and another surprising comeback occurred on Friday, as the Toros Salvajes UACh (2-2) led 19-0 in the third quarter against the favored Leones Cancún (3-1). However, the Leones mounted an impressive comeback to defeat the Toros 23-19.
In the National Conference, close matches were also witnessed. The Zorros CETYS (3-2) defeated the Indios UACJ (1-4) 18-7. The Potros ITSON (4-1) won 20-16 against the Cimarrones UABC (1-4). The Arkansas St Redwolves (1-4) secured a one-point victory over the U. Incarnate Word Cardinals (0-5) with a score of 19-18. Tecos UAG (3-2) overcame the Leones Anahuac Qro (2-3) by a score of 12-7. The Búhos (5-1) triumphed over the Halcones UV (2-3) with a score of 21-0. Finally, the Borregos Querétaro (5-0) achieved a resounding 47-0 victory over the Lobos ULM (1-4).
