Mexican college football winds up second week of action
It was White and Green interconference day in the second weekend of play in the ONEFA (Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Futbol Americano) while the CONADEIP (La Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas) had four games on top.
ONEFA
The Burros Blancos IPN visited the U. Anáhuac Querétaro Leones and behind three touchdowns from QB Alejandro García Rosado (9), the Burros improved to 2-0 after defeating the Leones 36-14
The Anahuac Cancun provided the surprise of the week, in the “Coliseo Maya” when they defeated the 2017 semifinalists of the Green Conference, the Anáhuac México Norte, 17-6.
The Centinelas CGP overwhelmed the Leones Negros UAG 51-13 for their second triumph of the year in Red Conference action at the Stadium General Joaquín Amaro Domínguez.
In other scores fro the Red Conference, the current champions, Correcaminos Victoria of the U.A. of Tamaulipas, stayed unbeaten after defeating the Lobos of the Benemérita Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) 24-17.
The UNAM Pumas, defending ONEFA champions, opened their 2018 season impressively, handing their brothers, the Pumas UNAM Campus Acatlan a 49-0 defeat.
The first quarter was dominated by the defenses, it was until the second quarter, when Pumas CU scored their first two touchdowns to finish the first half 14-0. During the second half, nothing could prevent the score bulging so that the Acatlan Pumas were beaten.
Las Águilas Blancas, the other team of the IPN, also had a dominating debut, when rolling to a 60-10 win over the Toros Salvajes of the Autonomous University of Chapingo UACH in the Wilfrido Massieu stadium.
Another interconference game saw the Auténticos Tigres UANL defeat the defending White Conference champions, the Potros Salvajes UAEM, 34-19.
The UA Reynosa Correcaminos recorded their first win of the season, after defeating the Tecos UAG in a week 2 battle. The Correcaminos scored 7 points in the first half and 7 in the second and that was enough to beat the Tecos 14-0.
The Halcones UV defeated the Tlahuicas of Selección Morelos 9-0 while the Linces UVM downed the Frailes UT 39-14.
CONADEIP
Finally the Aztecas UDLAP and the defending champions, Borregos Toluca were able to wind up the first week of the Premier Conference, after the game was suspended due to an electrical storm last week. Toluca came away with an important 21-10 win.
With an overall solid performance, the Borregos Monterrey football team defeated Borregos Querétaro 62-0 for their second win of the season in the CONADEIP Premier Conference.
In Puebla, the Borregos Puebla (1-1) coached by Hugo Lira, played host to the Zorros CETYS Mexicali (0-1), under coach Angel Medina. The squad from Puebla put on an offensive display in rolling over the Zorros 48-6.
A meeting between the Borregos Guadalajara team and the ITSON Potros on the Potros home field in Sonoma, Mexico, marked the second day of play in the Premier conference. The Potros opened the scoring with a spectacular 95 yard kickoff return by Luis Diaz.However, Guadalajara finally prevailed, winning 35-21.
The Cimarrones UABC overcame road nerves as they defeated the Zorros CETYS Tijuana 38-27 in a game held in Margarita Astiazarán de Fimbres stadium in Tijuana in the Libertad Conference.
