Mayas exact revenge on Condors as Mexico’s LFA finishes 2nd week of play

The defending champion Mayas exacted revenge for their opening round loss last week by pummeling the hapless Condors 64-16 in the second weekend of the 2017 season of the  Liga de Futbol Americano  Professional (LFA), Mexico’s only professional football league.

The Mayas has dropped their opener last weekend to the Eagles.

Mayas quarterback Marco Garcia threw three touchdown passes to Aaron Williams in the first half giving the reigning champions a 34-16 halftime lead. Then the offense rolled up 30 more unanswered points in the second half for the lopsided win.

Running back Omar Cojolum scored on a spectacular 80 yard touchdown run for the Mayas.

Condors head coach Enrique Zapata suffered through a rotation of three quarterbacks, trying to find consistency. Arturo Sánchez, Salvador Castañeda and César Moulinie all were given their chances to lead the offense but only Sánchez produced any points. With the Condors now winless in two games, this will be a problem as they must face the unbeaten Eagles next weekend.

On other games, the Eagles edged the surprising Fundidores 25-24 while the Raptors downed the Dinos 34-27.

The Eagles top the standings with a 2-0 record, followed by the Raptors who are also 2-0.
