Ljubljana Silverhawks Finished with a Win Over Turkish Champion
Slovenia’s American football champions wrap up their IFAF Europe Champions League group with a win.
There was a good crowd at the IFAF Europe Champions League game in Radomlje, Slovenia as they cheered loudly for their home team, the Ljubljana Silverhawks. The Silverhawks defense started the game strong and immediately made it clear that the Bogazici Sultans from Turkey would have trouble gaining first downs and even scoring on this day.
The Silverhawks offense was led by American quarterback Clark Evans, who had no problem gaining first downs and was often close to the red zone. In the 1st quarter Evans first successfully found Sedej for 21 yard TD and later to Copot on spectacular touchdown in the 4th down for 31 yard TD. PAT attempt made by Aleš Zakšek was good after both touchdowns.
In the 2nd quarter there were two interceptions, the first by Jure Laharnar and minutes later by Žiga Tomše. QB Evans played very well and had two great QB sneaks for the TD. The PAT was successful only once leaving the score at the halftime 27-0 for Silverhawks.
Soon after halftime RB Gregor Črepinšek scored a 61 yard TD. PAT was good. Silas Sarvinski, the American defensive tackle, recovered a fumble on the Sultans ball 5 yard-line, leaving Evans with little work to do. He passed to Sedej for 1 yard TD. After the PAT the score was 41-0. After that, the Silverhawks coaches gave some of the y to younger players a chance to prove themselves to the coaches and to the crowd. The Sultans took an advantage of that and scored on a run from Utku to lower the score to 41-7.
In last quarter both teams scored a touchdown. The Silverhawks reserve QB found WR Matic Tomše, who added a TD to several other catches. Sultans set the final score at 47-7 after another run, this time from Sertan on 8 yard rush.
A friendly atmosphere surrounded the game as the spectators and the Silverhawks organization provided food for the socially and economically less fortunate members of society in cooperation with the charity foundation “Anina zvezdica / Ana’s little star”.
The Silverhawks finished the CL Eastern division in second place, behind Beograd Vukovi and in front of the Istanbul Sultans.
