LIVSTREAM: Germany – Stuttgart Scorpions @Munich Cowboys, Sat. July 13, 4p CEDT (10a EDT)
The 2-5-1 Munich Cowboys will play host to the Stuttgart Scorpions (5-3) Saturday, July 13 in one of only two games scheduled this weekend in the German Football League.
These two teams met a couple of weeks ago with Stuttgart eking out a narrow 21-19 win.
Stuttgart sits fourth in the eight-team GFL South standings while the Cowboys are sixth. Both teams badly need a win today with the fourth and final playoff spot up for grabs still.
Munich is coming off a pair of nail-biting losses. They were edged 19-18 by the Kirchdorf Wildcats two weeks ago after suffering a very tough 21-19 loss to the Stuttgart Scorpions the week before that. The Cowboys racked up 471 yards of offense in that game including 286 yards through the air but could not score a passing touchdown. The week before they suffered a 41-29 loss to the Marburg Mercenaries following back-to-back wins over the Allgäu Comets, beating them 21-18 and 31-16.
Cowboys QB Brady Bolles has thrown for threw for 2,143 yards and 16 touchdowns in eight games with WR Jaylen Zachery hauling in 71 passes for 1,073 yards and six of those touchdowns. Kai Silbermann is his next leading target with 562 yards in receptions and five touchdown on 44 catches. However, the Cowboys running game has struggled and sits dead last in rushing in the GFL with an average of 57.6 yards rushing a game.
Stuttgart suffered an embarrassing 52-14 loss to the surging Marburg Mercenaries just before the break after earning a narrow 21-19 win over the Munich Cowboys the week before. They had lost badly to the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns 63-21 the week before that. The Scorpions had celebrated their fourth win of the year the week before that defeating the Kirchdorf Wildcats 31-29. The season had opened with promise with the Scorpions getting a 30-21 win over the Marburg Mercenaries, followed by a 34-7 victory over Kirchdorf and then a 37-30 win over Ingolstadt.
Stuttgart QB Michael Eubank has thrown for 1,945 yards in eight games with an average of 243.1 yards a game, good for fifth in the league. Running back Giacomo De Pauli has rushed for 477 yards and also caught 24 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Although he did not see the field in the loss to Marburg, he will no doubt be back and healthy today. Super speedy wide receive Tyler Cooperwood has 33 receptions for 603 yards and nine touchdowns while Luca Faschian caught 31 for 522 yards and five touchdowns.
