The IFAF Europe Champions League Final Four kicks off Friday in Wroclaw, Poland as Italy’s Milano Seamen take on the Koç Rams from Turkey in the early afternoon game and then the host Wroclaw Panthers face Austria’s Danube Dragons in the late game.
Wroclaw Panthers – Danube Dragons
Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers have improved over the course of the year with quarterback EJ White getting in better and better sync with his receivers. Running back Ricky Stevens has been on a tear. The receiving corps led by national team receivers Tomasz Dziedzic and Patryk Matkowski can make life difficult for opposing secondaries as evidenced by the lopsided wins against Denmark’s Triangle Razorbacks and the Prague Lions from the Czech Republic.
The Danube Dragons had a disappointing season in the Austrian league failing to make the playoffs for the first time in many years. However, quarterback Alex Good, who did not play in the Dragons first Champions League overtime win over the Novi Sad Dukes from Serbia, has been an improvement. After starting the Austrian season 0-3, Good helped the team qualify for the wild card playoffs. In their second Champions League group game, Danube rang up 60 points on the previously undefeated Lisbon Devils en route to a 60-36 win.
With the Panthers playing in front of a home crowd, the edge goes to them. They just won the Polish championship in dominant fashion and have been playing very well over the last four weeks.
