The Calanda Broncos will face the Thun Tigers Saturday, July 15 in Swiss Bowl XXXVII which will be played in the small town of Grenchen.

The Broncos will be aiming for their 11th Swiss title when they face the surprising Thun Tigers who have reached the championship game for the first time in their history.

Calanda finished first in the Swiss league with a record of 9-1 and then downed the Geneva Seahawks 35-3 in the semifinals. The 7-3 Tigers were third place finishers but then upset the Zurich Renegades in their semifinal 45-41 after having lost to them in the last regular season game of the year.

These two teams met twice during the season with Calanda coming out on top both times, 52-31 and 54-17.

This is a clash of the top two scoring teams in the Swiss league. The Broncos averaged 37.3 points a game during the regular season while Thun scored an average of 29.6 a game. Calanda allowed a league-low 19.3 points a contest while the Tigers gave up 24.5.

This is definitely being billed as a David vs Goliath event and there is every reason for that. Calanda’s two lopsided wins over the Tigers in the regular season and their history make them the heavy favorites. However, Thun defeated a Zurich Renegades team in the semifinal who many people thought would be playing in the Swiss Bowl.
