The Stockholm Mean Machines will host the Tyresö Royal Crowns in the second Swedish Superserien semifinal Saturday, June 29 at Zinkensdamms IP.
These two teams faced each other in the final game of the regular season with Stockholm coming away with a 48-14 victory. The Royal Crowns advanced to the semifinals after beating the Limhamn Griffins in the quarterfinals 35-6.
In that win over Tyresö, the Mean Machines introduced a new quarterback, Derek Green, the son of former NFL quarterback Trent Green. Green replaced the injured Matteo Renteria and in his first action threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns with a 69% completion percentage. Green’s 18 completions in that game were caught by 11 different receivers with Robin Gavelin Miranda catching five for 64 yards and a touchdown, Isac Lilleberg grabbing two for 77 and Anton Blomgren two for 44 and a touchdown. Lilleberg was the Mean Machines leading receiver on the season with 278 yards receiving and two scores.

On the ground, the Superserien’s leading rusher, Kasper Wedberg leads a potent rushing attack. Wedberg rushed for 541 yards on the year with David Ottandar second on the team with 49 carries for 261 yards and five touchdowns.
Royal Crowns quarterback Jared Heywood finished as the third leading passer in the Superserien after throwing for 1,669 yards and 22 touchdowns in the seven game regular season. His main target, Kevin Börzsei, is the league’s leading receiver with 39 catches for 660 yards and seven of those touchdowns. These two will be the key. They need to get in sync early in this game. In the last outing against the Mean Machines, Heywood completed 18 passes for 210 yards with Börzsei catching seven of those passes for 106 yards. The Tyresö rushing game is badly needed if they are to have any chance in this semifinal. Heywood was the leading rusher for the Royal Crowns against Stockholm as the team had only 68 yards rushing. It that doesn’t improve, the Mean Machines will prevail.
