The Stockholm Mean Machines (5-1) will be in a battle Saturday, June 8 when the play host to the Tyresö Royal Crowns (5-1) to decide who advances automatically to the semifinal round in the Swedish Superserien.

The losing team will have to play in the Wild Card round next weekend.

Stockholm is coming off a 42-7 win over AIK two weeks ago that they achieved without the services of their starting quarterback as backup Johan Hallgren stepped in. Starter Mateo Renteria suffered a season-ending injury and has left for home so the Mean Machines have signed Derek Green, the son of former NFL quarterback Trent Green. Green will see his first action today.

The Mean Machines opened the 2024 season in the Swedish Superserien with four straight wins after beating the Örebro Black Knights 39-18, the Limhamn Griffins 44-14, the Kristianstad Predators 41-18 and the Oslo Vikings 34-21 . In mid April, Stockholm downed the visiting British champions, the Manchester Titans, 44-14 in Central European Football League play and then lost a nail biter to the La Courneuve Flash 34-33. 

They suffered their first loss since 2021 when the Carlstad Crusaders beat them 21-7 three weeks ago.

Tyresö opened the season by downing the Vikings 56-37 but then dropped a tough 24-21 decision to the Carlstad Crusaders. They then blanked the Griffins 35-0, downed the Black Knights 47-29 before beating AIK 35-7 two weeks ago before beating the Predators 32-13.

This will definitely be the Game of the Week. The last time these two teams faced each other was in the 2023 Swedish Championship Game which Stockholm won 55-35.
