In the opening game of the 2024 Swedish Superserien, the Tyresö Royal Crowns take the six hour bus ride to Oslo, Norway to face the Norwegian champions, the Oslo Vikings in a historic game. This is the first time the Vikings, perennial winners of the Norwegian title, will be competing in the top league in Sweden.

The Vikings will be led by former NCAA quarterback CJ Fowler. Fowler spent his senior college season (2019) at Western New Mexico University (NCAA Div. II) where he completed 246 of 475 passes for 3,232 yards while tossing 22 touchdown passes. He had previously played for Mississippi Valley State University (NCAA Div. I) in 2017 and 2018 where he threw for a total of 2,283 yards and nine touchdowns in his 18 games. Defensively, Oslo relies on All American DE William Sewell from Frostburg State (NCAA Div. III). Sewell has returned for his second season with the Vikings after having played for the Helsinki Roosters in Finland’s Maple League in 2023. He anchored the Copenhagen Towers defensive line in 2019.

For the Royal Crowns, quarterback Jared Heywood (Rhode Island, UNLV) is the key and he will have wide receivers Kevin Börzsei and Edvin Almeida to target. Almeida was the second leading receiver in the Superserien in 2023 with 32 catches, for 490 yards and seven touchdowns. The backfield is anchored by sensational young running back Vilgot Valeskog who rushed for 266 yards and five touchdowns in Team Sweden’s rout of Denmark in IFAF U19 play.
