The reigning Swedish champion Carlstad Crusaders will open the 2025 season on the road when they face 2025 semifinalists, the Tyresö Royal Crowns, Sunday, April 6 at Tyresövallen, Tyresö, Stockholm.

These two teams faced each other once in 2024 during the regular season with Carlstad coming away with a thrilling 24-21 victory. The Crusaders captured the 2024 crown with a decisive 51-22 win over the Stockholm Mean Machines in the title game. Tyresö lost to the Mean Machines 30-27 in the semifinal round.

Jared Heywood has returned as quarterback for the Royal Crowns. The UNLV grad threw for 1,669 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024 while leading Tyresö to the semifinals. His main target will likely be Kevin Börzsei (660 yards rec/7 TDs).

For Carlstad, Slade Jarman is back behind center after an outstanding championship campaign in 2024. Jarman threw for a league-best 1,956 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2024. Wide receiver Albin Forsman was the fifth leading pass catcher in the league in 2024 with 29 receptions for 497 yards and four scores and will no doubt be one of Jarman’s leading targets.

Expect another exciting clash as the Crusades look to open the season in defense of their first title since 2020 with a win while the home team will be aiming for the year’s first upset.
