The Carlstad Crusaders (4-0) will be looking to keep their unbeaten streak intact when they travel to the south of Sweden to face the Limhamn Griffins (1-3) as the Swedish Superserien heads into the home stretch of the season.
The last time these two teams met was in 2017 and the Crusaders won both games that season.
The Griffins were beaten 44-14 by the Stockholm Mean Machines to start the season but then stunned with league with a solid 31-23 win over the Örebro Black Knights. Two weeks ago, they suffered their second loss of the year after being defeated 15-8 by AIK. They then were blaned 35-0 by the Tyresö Royal Crowns a week ago. The Crusaders whipped the Kristianstad Predators 42-6 to open the season and then got by the Tyresö Royal Crowns 24-21. Two weeks ago they manhandled the Oslo Vikings whipping them 41-6 at home and followed that up with a 42-0 throttling of AIK Stockholm..
For the Griffins, quarterback Samuel Jämthammar has thrown for 507 yards but only one touchdown in the four games with Olof Nilsson his favorite target with 21 receptions for 268 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Alexander Nesic has rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown making him the league’s fourth leading rusher.
For Carlstad, quarterback Slade Jarman (Fort Valley State, NCAA Div. II) as been outstanding and leads the league having thrown for 1,085 yards and 15 touchdowns against four interceptions. Dutch receiver Willem Van Compernolle is his favorite target and leads the league with 25 catches for 330 yards and eight touchdowns with Albin Forsman (19 rec, 328 yds, 4 TDs) and Finnish wide out Kristian Natunen (18 rec, 296 yds, 2 TDs) right behind in second and third in the Superserien. Running back Young Kennedy is the league’s top rusher having carried the ball 46 times for 374 yards and four scores.
With Carlstad playing outstanding football on both sides of the ball, the Griffins have to hope that home field will carry some advantage today.
