LIVESTREAM: Sweden – Örebro Black Knights @Stockholm Mean Machinces, Sat. May 4, 3p CEDT (9a EDT)
The defending Swedish champion Stockholm Mean Machines (1-0) return to the Swedish Superserien Saturday, May 4 when they play host to the 1-1 Örebro Black Knights at Zinkendamms Idrottsplats in Stockholm.
These two teams played each other three times in 2018 with the Black Knights winning both regular season games, 29-26 and 40-35. Stockholm gained revenge though by beating the Örebro 35-14 in the semifinals.
The Mean Machines have played and lost two international games since beating the Carlstad Crusaders in the opening game of the Swedish top league, 33-13. They lost a close game to Finland’s Helsinki Roosters 21-19 four weeks ago in Helsinki and then dropped a 28-25 decision to the Copenhagen Towers.
In the win over Carlstad, quarterback Alex Thury was solid completing 16 of 26 passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns. His wide receivers Omar Fall, Per Lindelöf and Hans Maximilian von Wachsmann are all dangerous. Also at his disposal is Alpha Jalloh who is the joker. Against the Roosters he had a monster day hauling in 13 passes for 222 yards (of Stockholm’s 242 total) and two touchdowns while Denny John scored the third touchdown on a pass from Thury who completed 17 of 29 passes.
For Orebro, this game is important after they were shocked by the Carlstad Crusaders 46-0 after downing the Uppsala 86ers in the opening game of the year, 21-7.
Quarterback Johnny Knox struggled in the loss to Carlstad, throwing for just 57 yards and rushing for 49. But if he gets any kind of momentum, he can be dangerous and turn a game around. The Örebro offensive line has had time to readjust their protections.
This could be an interesting game.
