LIVESTREAM Sweden: Carlstad Crusaders @ Örebro Black Knights, Sept. 19, 15:30 CET (09:00 ET)
The Swedish Superserien is back this Saturday with the 3-1 Carlstad Crusaders visiting the Örebro Black Knights (1-3). Both teams have had some ups and downs this season but are looking to get pivotal win this week.
The Carlstad Crusaders go into this game with a 3-1 record with their only loss coming in week one against a solid Stockholm team. In that game they were also missing their starting quarterback. They have looked much better since that loss collecting 3 straight wins. Last week they dominated the Uppsala 86ers 42-6 at home. The Crusaders offense has picked up considerably since quarterback Danny Farley has been back in the lineup. Farley currently leads the league in passing yards even after missing one game. He threw for 209 yards last week in an offense that featured mostly running plays. The man moving the chains last week for Carlstad was Emil Knutsson. Knuttson ran the ball for an impressive 103 yards against the 86ers. That performance propelled his numbers making him the current leading rusher in the league. If Carlstad can run the ball like they did the last two weeks look for them to get the win in Örebro.

Defensively the Crusaders have been playing great all season. They completely shut down the 86ers and held the Örebro to only 6 points in their first matchup. Linebacker Christian Kuylenstierna has been a force for them this season racking up tackles for losses in game after game. Look for Kuylenstierna and fellow linebacker Felix Sencar to be important pieces this week as Orebro will certainly be looking to run the ball early and often. Defensive back Darius Lewis had some thoughts on the matchup with Orebro this week:
“We need to initiate contact and wrap up on tackles; great pursuit on long runs; but most importantly being where we need to be. Coach Gere has the perfect defense, but we must execute it to the fullest each game until we are finished.”
For the Örebro Black Knights they are looking to avenge their loss to the Crusaders earlier this season. The Black Knights go into this game with a 1-3 record with two of their losses coming to the Stockholm Mean Machines. Last time these two teams played the Black Knights had quarterback Dammy Agbabiaka play after only one practice due to the injury to starter Jake Sisson. This time around things will be different. A more prepared Örebro team will also have running back Mike Gentili join them. Gentili is an Italian American running back who has played for the Lazio Ducks and Helsnki Roosters. Look for him and Swedish running back Kasper Wedberg to be a dynamic duo for the rest of the season. Two running backs should be successful running behind German offensive lineman Lukas Maier, who was practicing with Gentili in Schawbisch Hall this off-season. Coach Speckman on the signing of Mike Gentili.
“We are really happy that this worked out. Mike is an intelligent and versatile player who will help us be more dynamic in all 3 phases of the game. I feel he can be that boost of energy we need right now. And our young team will benefit from his experience and hard working attitude.””
Last week Örebro played well against the first place Mean Machines, but ultimately fell short losing 38-22. Unfortunately in the third quarter quarterback Jake Sisson took a helmet to helmet hit and had to be replaced by Dammy Agbabiaka. We will see if Sisson can play this week. Agbabiaka flashed his athleticism scoring 2 fourth quarter touchdowns. After a successful onside kick it looked like the Black Knights could have a chance to come back. Unfortunately a bad snap gave the Mean Machines a touchdown and killed Örebro’s momentum. Look for Agbabiaka and his two powerful running backs to make some big plays running the ball this weekend
This is one of the best games in the Superserien as these two teams are battling it out for a potential home playoff game. Last time they faced of it was an exciting 14-6 game. Look for this rematch to be filled with more points as both teams have had more time to gel offensively. Carlstad has a chance to prove that they are real contenders. Meanwhile, Örebro wants to show that they are a much better team than their record shows.
