LIVESTREAM: Sweden – #8 Carlstad Crusaders @Göteborg Marvels – April 21 (5p CEST, 11a EST)
The Göteborg Marvels play host to the unbeaten Carlstad Crusaders Saturday, April 21 at Valhalla IP field in Göteborg, Sweden.
This is the first meeting between these two teams since 2008, the last time the Marvels played in the Swedish Superseries before advancing this year.
The Marvels opened their season with a tough 30-22 road loss to the Stockholm Mean Machines while Carlstad has won both its games so far in 2018. The Crusaders rallied to defeat the Orebro Black Knights in the season opener and then rolled over the Stockholm Mean Machines.
Carlstad quarterback Phil Juhlin has thrown for 578 yards and six touchdowns in two games with his two main receivers being Jacob Dahre and Robin Juhlin. Dahre has 169 yards receiving so far while Juhlin has 163.
Jonathan Andersson from the Marvels threw for 184 yards against Stockholm and two touchdowns with his main target, Oscar Wahlberg, hauling in six passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. Alberto Taborda caught two passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Alpha Jalloh had three carries for 41 yards while running back Gerard Johnson suffered an injury early in the game and did not carry the ball after that. He has recovered and will start.
Marvels general manager Carl Kamm:
“We are very excited about this game. We have been a feeder club for Carlstad so today marks a new era for us. We really want to come out strong. They have a great quarterback and great receivers and we are a new team. To beat them we have to play error-free football pretty much.”
According to Kamm, this game could be decided in the trenches:
“Today will be a battle of the box. I feel we match up well at the skill positions so our offensive line will have to cope with the best defensive front seven in the league. The same goes for our defensive line.”
Head coach Sigurður Jósúason is a former Team Sweden quarterback but has also played linebacker and defensive line so he will no doubt expect some physicality from his quarterback, especially against a team like Carlstad.
The Facebook feed will go live 15 minutes before kickoff.
