The Carlstad Crusaders (2-0) will play host to Norway’s Oslo Vikings (0-2) Saturday, April 27 as the Swedish Superserien rolls into Week#3 of the 2024 schedule.
This is the first ever meeting between these two teams. Oslo is playing in the Superserien this year after dominating in Norway over the past several seasons.
The Crusaders whipped the Kristianstad Predators 42-6 to open the season and then got by the Tyresö Royal Crowns 24-21. Oslo suffered a 56-37 loss to the Tyresö Royal Crowns in Oslo in their season opener and then were beaten by the Örebro Black Knights 31-19 in Örebro.
For Carlstad, quarterback Slade Jarman (Fort Valley State, NCAA Div. II) is the key. He has thrown for 394 yards and four touchdowns so far although he has also tossed four interceptions. Dutch receiver Willem Van Compernolle is his favorite target with 11 catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Young Kennedy is the league’s top rusher having carried the ball 29 times for 295 yards and four scores.
The Vikings are led by former NCAA quarterback CJ Fowler has completed 26 of 58 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns but he has thrown two picks as well. Niklas Fengler has caught eight passes for 124 yards to lead the team while Matthew Snawder has six receptions for 88 yards and two scores. Versatile William Sewell has rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown but also leads the team in tackles with 15 from his defensive end position.
The Vikings defense will be tested today. They have given up 756 yards of offense in two games and are facing a Carlstad team that has racked up 767 yards in their two matchups.
