The final quarterfinal game in the Spanish League of American Football pits the #3 LG Oled Las Rozas Black Demons (7-1) and the #6 Valencia Firebats (4-4) Sunday, April 28 at Campo de Rugby El Cantizal in Las Rozas.
The Black Demons were semifinalists in 2018 and look primed to advance again. They boast the second best offense having scored 385 points in eight games while they had the second leading defense surrendering an average of 9.8 points a game. However, all their victories but one were against teams with losing records. They did beat the Murcia Cobras handily early on but lost to them later in the year 39-34. Nevertheless, the duo of QB Trenton Jones and WR Evan Altizer has been potent for Las Rozas this season.
The once mighty Firebats went through a less than impressive season, earning wins against easy prey (twice against the Voltors and twice against the Zaragoza Hurricanes). Their losses were all by at least three touchdowns or more. They scored 127 points in eight games (15.8 pots/game) while allowing 183, the second worst among all eight playoff teams. Veteran QB Fernando Altarriba will need to be sharp in this game for Valencia to have a chance. However he has an excellent receiving corps in Carlos Cervera, Alejandro Silvestre, Sergio León, Javier Martínez and Willem Andrés Jore,
Still, the edge in this one will have to go to the Black Demons.
