LIVESTREAM: Spanish Playoffs – Mallorca Voltors @ Murcia Cobras – May 5 (5p CEST, 11a EST)
The undefeated Murcia Cobras will host the 3-3 Mallorca Voltors May 5 at Polideportivo Jose Barnes field in Murcia, Spain in the quarterfinals of the Spanish League of American Football (LNFA).
The Cobras, who have not played a game since April 7 when they defeated the Granada Lions 50-0, are facing perhaps the most improved team in the Spanish league in the Voltors.
Murcia had one of the best offenses in Spain during the regular season rolling up 293 points in eight games while allowing an average of 4,8. Playing in Group B, Murcia was only challenged twice during the eight game regular season, both times by the Coslada Camioneros, beating them 16-13 and 7-0. Quarterback Jordan Perry has thrown 13 touchdown passes while backup Angel Clemente has thrown seven. Wide receiver Alex Holmes has caught 13 of these touchdown passes.
With a team that is 90% home grown, the Cobras could well challenge for the Spanish crown this year, only their second in the top division.
Mallorca quarterback Craig Coffman has made a huge difference this year and with wide receiver Henri Laine (who played for the Reus Imperials in 2017 as well as Finland’s Seinajoki Crocodiles) has given the Voltors an offensive punch. The Voltors looked impressive in their blowout 41-2 wild card playoff win against the Valencia Giants a week ago. They could surprise.
