The Badalona Dracs, Europe #14, defending and back-to-back Spanish champions will face the Murcia Cobras in the Spanish championship game June 2.
The Dracs, nine-time winners of the Spanish crown demolished Madrid’s Osos Rivas 48-0 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Murcia made history in defeating the LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons 35-28. This is the Cobras first-ever trip to the final.
Badalona head coach Oscar Calatayud has put together an outstanding unit this year and it showed in the semifinal. With Sergi Gonzalo directing the offense, Brandon Ravenel scored twice on pass receptions while Lorenzo Melchiorre scored two on the ground. Melchiorre also threw touchdown passes to Guillem Garcia. Albert Pascual scored another touchdown on a pick six.
Alejandro Sotomayor, head coach of the Cobras, relies on quarterback Jordan Perry. In the semifinal, Perry threw five touchdown passes, two to Jorge Escudero, two to Cory Holmes and the last, and winning touchdown to Francisco Javier Martinez.
Both teams enter the game with unbeaten records in Spain this year. Badalona has a 7-0 record in the Spanish league so far including playoffs, while the Cobras are 10-0. Murcia has averaged 36.3 points a game while the Dracs have rolled up almost 51 points on average every game.
The Dracs are favorites to win their third consecutive title, but Murcia could surprise as they almost did in the 2017 semifinals, losing to the Dracs 21-13.
