LIVESTREAM Spain: Zaragoza Hurricanes @ L’Hospitalet Pioners, March 25, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 11 am EDT).
The Zaragoza Hurricanes will be looking to improve to 4-4 and put themselves in position for a playoff berth when they travel to Barcelona to face the 1-6 L’Hospitalet Pioners Saturday, March 25 in the second last weekend of regular seasonplay in the Spanish National League of American Football.
While the Pioners haven’t won since week one, they have played every opponent close since that 20-point defeat against the Dracs. They have plenty of talent with quarterback Adrian Moreno and Brazilian running back Jean Carlos Barbosa to go along with Peter Vincent and Vladimir Yartsev Burdyn on the defensive line. Two of their last three defeats each came by only a touchdown and, as they proved in the first half against Badalona a month ago, and in last week’s loss to the Dracs, they can keep a game competitive if allowed.
The Hurricanes‘ goal is to hopefully clinch a playoff berth depending on how the Mallorca Voltors do next weekend. Zaragoza won the first game against the Pioners earlier in the season 20-6. The Hurricanes occupy third place in the Eastern Conference after beating Mallorca 29-7 a week ago. They had opened the season with three straight losses before picking up back-to-back wins (against L’Hospitalet Pioners and Valencia Firebats). However, they lost a tough one to Badalona 27-21 before the victory over Mallorca.
Zaragoza’s Mexican quarterback Ricardo Rincon threw four touchdown passes in last week’s win over Mallorca. He will have plenty of weapons to connect with, starting with wide receivers Aaron David, Antonio Dantart and Luis Sanchez. Defensive lineman Prince Bafhoh gives the Hurricanes a presence along its defensive line.
This game is a toss up. Zaragoza needs the win to have any chance at the post season while the Pioners want to finish the season strong in front of their home crowd.
