LIVESTREAM: Spain – Valencia Firebats @Murcia Cobras, Sat. April 6, 5p CEDT (11a EDT)
The fifth place Murcia Cobras (5-2) will play host to the sixth place 4-3 Valencia Firebats Saturday, April 6 in the final regular season game for both teams in the Spanish League of American Football.
These two teams have not played each other since 2017 when Valencia won both contests, 20-10 and 22-21.
Murcia is on a three-game winning streak. Two weeks ago they disposed of the Fuengirola Potros 26-8 after a momentum-building, thrilling 39-34 victory over the Las Rozas Black Demons and a 41-0 blanking of the Granada Lions. Before that, the Cobras, 2018 finalists in the Spain, had alternated between outright domination with lopsided wins over Granada and the Fuengirola Potros 41-0, and embarrassment. They were overwhelmed by the Badalona Dracs 49-26 in February.
However, Cobras quarterback Adam Salvadori seems to have found his rhythm and with sure-handed wide receiver Cory Holmes to throw to the offense is clicking.
Valencia is also on a winning streak having beaten the Mallorca Voltors 33-6 and Zaragoza Hurricanes 27-7. They had opened the year with a disappointing, lopsided 46-12 loss to Badalona but rebounded to edge Mallorca 14-13 and the Zaragoza Hurricanes 27-0. However, they were shut out last week 18-0 by the Coslada Camioneros and have fallen to sixth in the 12 team league. Veteran quarterback Fernando Altarriba will need to be sharp in this game. His offense is only averaging 17 points a game compared to Murcia’s average of 32 points a game.
