The top team in Spain over the past four years, the Badalona Dracs who are undefeated so far in 2018 will play host to the also unbeaten Valencia Firebats, the only team other than Badalona to have won the Spanish title since 2013. The Firebats captured the Spanish championship in 2015.
Both teams have dominated their Group A opponents in 2018.
Badalona rolled over the Mallorca Voltors 51-0 and then disposed of the L’Hospitalet Pioners 34-6. The Firebats blanked the Voltors 18-0 and then beat the Pioners 32-6.
So this game is definitely a showdown in Spain and at the end of the game the winner will join the Murcia Cobras and the Las Rozas Black Demons as the only undefeated teams left in Spain.
These two teams faced each other twice in 2017 with the Dracs overwhelming Valencia both teams.
The Firebats enter the game with a new quarterback as Euro veteran Alexander McKean who played in Poland in 2017 with the Gdynia Seahawks and in Serbia with the Novi Sad Dukes previously, replaces Justin Sottilare. McKean will be throwing to Alejandro Silvestre, Nayim Mohamed and Javier Martínez ‘Solete’.
The Dracs will again rely on Sergi Gonzalo under center. Gonzalo, the leading quarterback in Spain in 2017, has thrown nine touchdown passes so far this season. One of his key receivers is Brandon Ravenel while running back Edu Morians has started the year impressively. In the win over the Pioners he rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns.
