This Sunday, February 14, the Fuengirlo Potros (1-1) will be hosting the Mallorca Voltors (2-1) in the final game of Spanish League of American Football’s fourth round of play.
The Voltors are coming off a 37-14 loss last week against the Dracs in Badalona, while the Potros are the home team with momentum as they shut out the Gijon Mariners last week winning 10-0.
The Voltors were handed their first loss of the season by a dominant Dracs team. Plagued by special teams and poor pass protection, the Voltors thin roster battled to the end of the game but never were able to close the gap. Look for quarterback Tanner Young and receiver Jaylon Hibbs to continue to rely on each other as the two combined for two touchdowns last week.

Young discusses his connection with Hibbs:
“Jay and I have had a lot of reps together and are very familiar with how the other sees the defense and is going to react to certain coverages and schemes. I think this is the biggest factor helping us connect often and put some point on the board for our team. We are enjoying getting more reps under our belt with the entire team and growing each week as a total offensive unit. For us this week is all about nailing our assignments and taking what the defense gives us.”
Defensively, one bright spot for the Voltors last week was two forced interceptions, one by British linebacker Kadel King and another by defensive back Marcus Molina. A key matchup this week will be Voltors linebacker Kadel King versus Potros quarterback Henri Väänänen who likes to use his legs. Head coach Andres Gelabert will look to have his team ready to rebound and get the win.
This Potros team gained a ton of momentum after their win in Gijon. After losing to the Black Demons 51-6 in week one, the resilient squad bounced back, dominating the Mariners on the road beating them 10-0. The Potros defense forced fumbles, caused interceptions had an epic goal line stand. This defensive swarm was led by defensive back Noah Richards who had an interception, two pass breakups, and seven tackles including some bone rattling hits. Look for this defense to step up to the challenge of facing an explosive Voltors offense built around a dangerous quarterback receiver duo.
Offensively, the Potros did just enough to win. A field goal by Potros kicker Manuel Fernández in the second quarter was followed by an offense draught until quarterback Henri Väänänen took off for the game sealing touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game. This week, the Potros offense will likely have to more explosive than their last time on the field two weeks ago to keep up with the high flying Voltors passing game.
Noah Richards on their shutout win in Gijon:
“It’s certainly always great to get a shutout, but we’re not satisfied nor do we feel like we’ve played to our full potential. We’re going to carry the same underdog mentality and work as hard as we can to improve in all phases.”
The Mallorca Voltors are eager to bounce back after their tough loss to the defender champion Dracs. On the other side, the Potros are filled with confidence and momentum after their emotional team win last week in Gijon.
