The Barcelona Pagesos (0-5) will be aiming for their first win of the year when they host the L’Hospitalet Pioners (2-3) Sunday, March 10 as the Spanish National league (LNFA) passes the midpoint of the 2024 season.
Barcelona, newcomers to the top league this year, have yet to win a game after being shut out by the Mallorca Voltors 12-0 to open the season and L’Hospitalet Pioners 17-0. They were then pummeled 54-9 by the Badalona Dracs and edged 19-7 by the Zaragoza Hurricanes. They finally came close in their second game against the Voltors two weeks ago pushing them to the limit but finally succumbing 26-25.
L’Hospitalet took an important victory against the Zaragoza Hurricanes two weeks ago beating them 21-19 after losing two in a row. They fell 34-28 decision to the Badalona Dracs and being beaten 13-7 by Mallorca. The Pagesos rely heavily on running back Luis Iturralde who scored twice against the Voltors last week. Quarterback Joshua Green has added another dimension to the Barcelona offense after they started the season with an all-Spanish lineup.
The Pioners latest additions, the brothers Garcia from Mexico have had an immediate impact. In the win against the Hurricanes Alex Garcia stepped in as quarterback and threw three touchdown passes, one to brother Luis Enrique Garcia. That makes seven touchdown passes in the two games Alex Garcia has played and three touchdown receptions for Luis Enrique.
Although the Pioners would have to be the favorites in this game, Barcelona could surprise considering how they played in their last outing.
