In the Spanish LNFA game of the week, the LG OLED Black Demons will take on their bitter cross-town rivals in the defending champion Osos Rivas. The two Madrid-based teams have a long history of epic games including last year’s Spanish Bowl championship game where the Osos Rivas won their first title in 21 years. Now the Black Demons hope to turn the page and set the rivalry’s tone early in the new season.
LIVESTREAM Spain: LG Oled Black Demons @ Osos Rivas, Jan. 21, 12:00 CET (Noon, 6 am ET)
The Black Demons are coming off of a hard-fought 14-7 win last week as new head coach Sam Eisenstadt got his team off to a 1-0 start against the newly promoted Coslada Camioneros.
Veterans such as Marcos de la Mata, Daniel Romero, Javier Carrasco, and Alejandro Garcia have a big impact on this game, as well as new import players Theo Landers (Guelph U, Frankfurt Universe), along with German wideout Luis Moreno (Frankfurt Galaxy) Swedish defensive backs Cewin Eriksson and Phillip Batista Grondahl, both former Örebro Black Knights.
The Osos Rivas are also undefeated after one week, as the reigning Spanish Bowl champions defeated the Gijon Mariners 16-3. Running back Ronald Tomasello had a strong game rushing for over 100 yards and two scores in the win, while Spanish quarterback Sergio Barbera managed the game well.
Defensively, the Osos Rivas have several key players including Mexican talents Johnny Escobar and Jorge Juarez leading a fast and physical front seven. If this group can contain a talented Black Demons offense, look for the defending champions to start the year 2-0.
Expect another hard fought, competitive, and chippy game today as this classic Spanish football rivalry hardly disappoints.
