The Zaragoza Hurricanes (1-5) will play host to the Gijon Mariners (1-5) in a game that has suddenly gained attention as the Spanish National League of American Football enters the final stages of the regular season.

The Hurricanes are coming off a stunning 23-6 upset of the powerhouse Osos Rivas last week in a game that they controlled from the opening whistle. With the win, Zaragoza has a chance to climb out of the cellar they have occupied in the Spanish Western conference when they face the Mariners. Gijon won the first meeting between the two teams 13-7.

Gijon lost 48-13 last week to the Las Rozas Black Demons which had followed a 48-10 defeat at the hands of the Coslada Camioneros and a 38-0 loss to Osos Rivas the week before. They had earned their first victory of the season after beating the Hurricanes 13-7. They had dropped their two first games of the season, 33-17 to the Camioneros in their opening game and then 49-27 to the Black Demons.

Before the win over Osos Rivas, Zaragoza ws having a dismal season after moving from the Eastern to Western conference. They lost 49-6 to the Black Demons to open the season and then were pummeled 42-10 by Osos Rivas. They kept it close but still lost to the Mariners 13-7. They then fell 28-20 to the Coslada Camioneros before suffering a 35-6 thumping at the hands of the Black Demons.

This game is now a toss up but Zaragoza may have a slight edge. They are playing at home and they have had a boost of confidence which can carry through into this matchup.
