LIVESTREAM: Spain – Fuengirola Potros @Murcia Cobras, Sat. Feb. 8, 5p CET (11a ET)
The 1-2 Murcia Cobras will be looking to improve their record when they head to Fuengirola to face the 1-1 Fuengirola Potros February 8 in Spanish League of American Football fourth-round action.
Fuengirola downed the Coslada Camioneros 16-6 in the opening game of the year for them but were soundly beaten 41-6 by the Mallorca Voltors.
The Cobras were beaten 21-7 by the Las Rozas Black Demons to open the season and then defeated the Camioneros 45-0. But they then suffered a 41-14 thumping at the hands of the vastly improved Voltors last week.
Quarterback Carlos Chaves is the key for Fuengirola in their second season in Spain’s top league. In addition to Chaves, the offense relies on Finnish running back Jarno Elo. The team has also signed Noah Drake as well as linemen Arttu Immonen, Joonas Kolka from Finland and Britain’s Mario Haberthardt (the last two are returning).
The Cobras need to get back to their winning ways of the past two seasons.
Under head coach Daniel Iniesta, Murcia made it to the semifinal last year where the Badalona Dracs were too much, beating them 40-20. Still, the Cobras have been contenders every year since arriving in the top league in 2017, reaching the semifinals in 2017 and the final in 2018. Iniesta has re-signed his quarterback from last year, Adam Salvadori (American International College) who threw for 2,287 yards and 28 touchdowns. He has also brought in wide receiver Curtis Holden.
