The Coslada Camioneros (2-4) will pay a visit to Gijon in northern Spain Saturday, March 11 to face the Gijon Mariners in the second meeting between the two teams this year in the Spanish National League of American Football.
In the first game, Gijon dropped a 21-14 decision to the Camioneros in the second outing of the season after having been beaten 16-3 by Osos Rivas. They then lost 56-14 to the Black Demons before beating the Alcobendas Cavaliers 40-20. However, last weekend they were trounced 39-0 by Osos Rivas.
The Caminoneros, one of the two newcomers to the top league this season, have put together a 2-4 record. They opened the year with a tough 14-7 loss to the Black Demons but then won two straight, beating Alcobendas 28-14 and the Mariners 21-14 before losing to Osos 7-3, the Cavaliers 14-8 and then 44-0 to Las Rozas.
Mariners’ Mexican quarterback Sergio Cebado, is a dual threat passer and running back Irvin Riley (Jacksonville University) is dangerous but they will need to bounce back from that embarrassing loss last week to the Black Demons.
Coslada also relies on a Mexican quarterback, Hector Hernandez, and he has veteran wide receiver MJ Williams (Copenhagen Towers) to throw to. However, the offense has averaged only just over 11 points a game.
