The Barcelona Pagesos (0-1) travel across town to face the L’Hospitalet Pioners (1-0) as the Spanish League of American Football heads into its second weekend of play.
In the opening weekend of play, the Pagesos, newcomers to the top league, were blanked by the Mallorca Voltors 13-0. Meanwhile, L’Hospitalet edged the Zaragoza Hurricanes 13-12, gaining revenge for last season’s two losses to the Hurricanes.
Pioners head coach Bertu Fernandez will rely on quarterback Robert Carter who engineered last week’s victory. Running back Silver Salazar, who scored a touchdown last week will be a key along with defensive back Dani Belso who scored the other touchdown. Belgian running back Thomas Davies also adds offensive firepower. On defense, Brazilian linebacker Victor Villaca and British defensive lineman Peter Vincent give L’Hospitalet a formidable front seven.
The Pagesos rely on a solid core of players from the Div. 2 championship roster and have added American defensive back Joshua Green (UVA-Wise NCAA DII). The Barcelona defense allowed just one touchdown in last week’s loss while the offense gave up a pick six. The Pagesos could surprise in this game.
