The undefeated Badalona Dracs (5-0) take the short trip across town Sunday, March 17 to take on the Barcelona Pagesos (0-6) as the Spanish League of American Football (LNFA) winds up its eighth weekend of action.
Barcelona, newcomers to the top league this year, have yet to win a game after being shut out by the Mallorca Voltors 12-0 to open the season and L’Hospitalet Pioners 17-0. They were then pummeled 54-9 by the Dracs and edged 19-7 by the Zaragoza Hurricanes. They finally came close in their second game against the Voltors pushing them to the limit but finally succumbing 26-25. Last week, the Pioners beat them 31-13.
The Dracs have been impressive again this season beating the Mallorca Voltors 54- 9 in their first game and taking that momentum into a 50-7 win over the Pagesos before beating the Zaragoza Hurricanes 49-14. The Pioners surprised Badalona, keeping the game close, but finally succumbed 34-28. The Dracs then pummeled the Hurricanes again, this time by a score of 44-0.
The Pagesos rely on British quarterback Joshua Green (Yorkshire Rams) who joined the team partway through the season. Since his arrival the offense has averaged almost 20 pointsa game, up from 3.5 in the first four games of the season. He in turn has running back Luis Iturralde who scored twice against the Voltors.
Dracs veteran quarterback Sergi Gonzalo leads a potent offense averaging 46 points a game and headlined by wide receiver Alpha Jalloh who has scored 13 touchdowns so far this season. In the last game between these two teams, Jalloh scored three touchdowns on the ground and threw for another while replacing Gonzalo at quarterback. Add to this running back Ra’Von Bonner and the Pagesos are in for a long afternoon.
