The Barcelona Pagesos (0-1) face a formidable task when they face the Badalona Dracs (1-1) Sunday, January 26 as the Spanish National League of American Football winds up its third weekend of play.
Barcelona have not won a game in Spain’s top league since moving up in 2024 after losing their opening game of the 2025 season 21-0 to the Terrassa Reds. The Pagesos lost all eight of their games last year while scoring a mere 71 points. They are facing a Badalona team eager to prove that last week’s upset loss to the Mallorca Voltors was a fluke. The Dracs opened the season however with a win after whipping the L’Hospitalet Pioners 43-14.
In the two meetings between the teams in 2024, the Dracs were dominant beating Barcelona 50-7 and 33-19.
Former championship head coach Oscar Calatayud is back on the sideline for the Dracs after a three year absence. The veteran coach spent 17 years as the Dracs head coach, leading them to win six of their 11 LNFA league titles, five of which came consecutively between 2016 and 2021 – a stretch which saw the team’s record reach an astonishing 62-5 against Spanish teams.
Badalona quarterback Pol Singelton leads the league with seven touchdown passes while running back Keshawn Williams (University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff/NCAA Div. I) is the second-leading scorer in the league with 20 points.
