LIVESTREAM Serbia: Kragujevac Wild Boars @ Novi Sad Wild Dogs, May 23, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10:00 am ET)
The Novi Sad Wild Dogs (2-1) will host the Kragujevac Wild Boars (1-1) in this Serbian matchup today on AFI. Both teams are returning to domestic play after two very different results in international tournaments last week.
For the visiting Kragujevac Wild Boars, their trip to Austria didn’t go as planned. In the opening round of the Central European Football League tournament the Wild Boars were matched up against the Dacia Vienna Vikings who beat them soundly. Offensively, Kragujevac struggled having a field goal blocked and failing to convert on multiple fourth down tries. Late in the game, quarterback Isaiah Weed made a spectacular 47-yard run to put Kragujevac on the board, but at that point the game was out of hand. This week against Novi Sad, look for the Wild Boars offense to feature running back Ashton Heard. Heard has been a dynamic runner so far in the 2021 Serbian league season.
Heard commented on the Wild Boars mentality after a early exit in the CEFL:
“We will be ready to compete at a high intensity and show the Serbian league we are here to win our fifth consecutive title!”
Defensively, British defensive back Courtney Etienne is a crucial piece of the Wild Boars defense. Look for the versatile Etienne to be factor on defense and special teams as his speed makes him a dangerous kick returner.
Etienne commented on the team refocusing on Serbian play.
“As much as it was a great experience playing in CEFL, it does feel good to be return back to playing in Serbia. We have had a good week of preparation, practice and rest. The team is ready to put our full focus back on our championship run and it starts with Novi Sad tomorrow”
The Novi Sad Wild Dogs are coming off of a 50-0 win against the KAF Gladiators in the Balkan Football League. A strong defensive performance from the Wild Dogs was highlighted by a pick six from linebacker Nikola Uzelac. Uzelac is joined on the defense by national team linebackers Vladimir Vasilić and Luka Vujnović. At the Line of scrimmage expect Aleksander Doder to make a impact as one of the teams best run stopping defensive lineman.
Novi Sad’s offense is led by 19 year old quarterback Filip Đokić. Đokić’s receiving corps features another national team player in receiver Davor Soldo. Watch for the sure handed veteran to make an impact in this game. on the ground Novi Sad features speedy running back Filip Turčinović who has rushed for three touchdowns this season. The Wild Dogs X-Factor comes in the form of Jovan Ikić who has scored both as a returner and receiver this season. Ikić on Novi Sad’s start to the season:
“we are on a pretty good path so far, I think we give 110% each game and we believe in each other, we listen to our coach and we act like one big family!”
Fans should expect both teams to be motivated for this game, as the Wild Boars are eager to forget their trip to Austria. While Novi Sad looks to build on the positive momentum they’ve built up so far this season.
