LIVESTREAM Scandinavian Cup: Tyresö Royals Crowns @ Kristiansand Gladiators, May 28, 14:00 CET (2 pm, 08:00 am ET)
Norway’s Kristiansand Gladiators will play host to the Tyresö Royal Crowns from Sweden Saturday, May 28 in the final round of the Scandinavian Cup.
The Gladiators will be looking for their first win in the Scandinavian Cup after losing a tough 27-21 decision two weeks ago to the Aalborg 89ers. Meanwhile, Tyresö downed Denmark’s Aalborg 89ers, 35-12. So, this is the key game in the three-team Group A.
Quarterback Viktor Wessberg is the key to the Kristiansand offense. He tossed two touchdown passes in the loss to Aalborg and scored another one himself on a trick play. His receivers, Marlon Hýlton, Erlend Lien and Nicolas Chapman all found the end zone although Chapman’s points came from a two-point conversion. Running back Lasse Aaberg has been solid and will start. Swedish defensive back Damian Caban anchors the secondary along with Joshua Harrell.
Although the Royal Crowns won their opener in the Scandinavian Cup, they are coming off three straight losses in the Swedish Superserien following an opening game 35-16 win over the Örebro Black Knights, first dropping a tough 34-20 decision to the Stockholm Mean Machines and then losing 10-7 to the Carlstad Crusaders on a last second field goal. Finally, last week, they dropped a tight 26-21 decision to the Black Knights.
In other words, they have had an up and down season so far.
Tyresö’s offense will still apparently be slightly altered with the absence of veteran quarterback and offensive coordinator Phil Juhlin who apparently remains home in the United States due to a family issue. He was replaced by Marlon Alm last week who acquitted himself well last week throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to Örebro. The young Swede has an excellent receiving corps however including Edwin Taborda as well as Mattias Gauthier, Niko Peterson and Dovydas “Dovve” Koncevicius. Young running back Carl Lundberg has carried the load on the ground and can cause problems.
