The Örebro Black Knights will play host to Norway’s Oslo Vikings in the second round of a back-to-back Scandinavian Cup series with a berth in the final on the line.
The Black Knights took the opening game in Norway two weeks ago 21-13 so they either need to win the game, or lose by seven points or less, to qualify for the final on June 3 while Oslo needs to win by at least nine points.
In that first game, Örebro quarterback Trevor Vasey threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns, all three caught by wide receiver Johannes Lindeus who had 155 yards receiving. The Vikings will need to find a way to stop the Vasey to Lindeus connection to have a chance. Running back Kasper Wedberg had seven carries for 28 yards and Sepehr Mohammadi 10 for 25.
Oslo quarterback Jesber Cornelius Johnsen completed 20 of 39 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in the loss with his primary receiver, Linn Byrd, catching seven for 65 yards and that one score. Other key targets for Johnsen include receivers Frederik Fjeldseth, Daniel Nygard and Vegard Tysse. Vikings running back Rune Nielsen had seven carries for 31 yards.
In the other Scandinavian Cup matchup, the Carlstad Crusaders are traveling to Eidsvoll, an hour north of Oslo, to play their second-round game against the defending Norwegian champions, the Eidsvoll 1814s. Carlstad won the first game 26-0 in Karlstad.
