The Carlstad Crusaders from Sweden will be taking the three-hour bus trip to Oslo, Norway, Saturday, May 28 to face the Oslo Vikings in the final round of the Scandinavian Cup.
The Vikings are coming off a tough 39-17 loss to the Stockholm Mean Machines two weeks ago in Cup play after beating the Eidsvoll 1814s in the opening round, 42-7. Carlstad defeated the 1814s 43-14 after losing to Stockholm in the first weekend of play 40-26.
In the game against Stockholm, Vikings quarterback Jesber Johnsen completed 19 of 41 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown with Frederik Fjeldseth catching six passes for 68 yards and Linn Byrd six for 54. Jesper Jørgensen rushed for 46 yards on nine carries. In that game, Oslo only trailed by 10 at the half, 13-3, but Stockholm receiver Matts Retzlaff scored three of his four touchdowns in the final two quarters to put the game away for the Swedish squad.
Carlstad will start brand new quarterback, Canadian Connor Carusello (Wilfrid Laurier University) after Tim Morovick broke his ankle during practice. The 6’5″, 215-pound native of Caledonia, Ontario has an explosive receiving corps to throw to including Kevin Börzsei. Hardnosed running back Alexander Segerfeldt leads the Crusaders ground attack.
