LIVESTREAM PPV: Sweden – Carlstad Crusaders @Uppsala 86ers, Friday, June 7, 7p CEDT (1p EDT)
The Carlstad Crusaders (3-1) travel to Uppsala to take on the Uppsala 86ers (1-4) Friday, June 7 as the Swedish Superserien heads into the final two rounds of play.
The two teams faced each other earlier in the season with Carlstad coming out on top 33-7.
Since then, Uppsala has lost twice to the Stockholm Mean Machines, 20-0 and 34-6 and then defeated the Orebro Black Knights 25.6. Meanwhile, Carlstad downed the Black Knights 27-13. Carlstad had opened the Swedish season with a surprising loss to Stockholm, 33-13 but followed that up with a resounding 46-0 win over the Orebro Black Knights.
The 86ers lost their starting quarterback in that opening game and since then, wide receiver turned quarterback Gustav Bowall, has been pressed into service. He has only thrown for 469 yards and four touchdowns so far although in the win over Orebro he threw for 232 yards.
Uppsala’s Canadian defensive back Ryan Hector plays both ways while also returning kicks has given the team a true all-round weapon. In the last three games against Stockholm and Orebro, he has had 265 all purpose yards while recording 7.5 tackles. Australian offensive/defensive lineman Tim Clulow (16.5 tackles) also starts both ways. Linebacker Luis Rosado, who leads the team with 29.5 tackles in four games, is joined in the defensive front seven by another Australian, defensive end Sam Matautia who had team-best 5 tackles in the last game against the Black Knights.
Running back Johannes Nilsson had 56 carries for 279 yards in the last three games and could pose problems for the Crusaders front seven this week. He had 104 against Orebro.
The Crusaders have surged since losing the opening game of the season, partly due to the rushing attack led by running back Emil Knutsson. In his last two games, against Uppsala and the Black Knights he has rushed for 325 yards. Quarterback Shazzon Mumphrey has looked sharp and his leading receiver Kevin Borzsei has hauled in nine passes for 191 yards and four touchdowns. The 86ers secondary will be paying him close attention tonight.
Although Carlstad has to be the favorites tonight, Uppsala is playing at home and have nothing to lose.
