Portugal – Lisboa Devils @Lisboa Navigators, Sunday, Feb. 2
The defending champion Lisboa Devils will travel across town to face the Lisboa Navigators Sunday, February 2 as the Portuguese League of American Football kicks off its 2020 season.
These two teams met once in 2019 with the Devils prevailing 28-20.
The Devils are winners of the Portuguese title for three of the last four years including 2019 when they downed the Porto Mutts in the championship game 23-6. The Navigators had won six straight Portuguese crowns from 2010-2015 before the Devils broke their streak.
Following their resurgence in 2018 after three years of cellar dwelling, the Navigators will enter the 2020 campaign among the contenders for the Portuguese crown.
The lineup for the Devils has not changed much from 2019 including arguably the best running back in the country, Juzz “Tinny” Furtado. They have made a switch at quarterback from the Founder’s Cup Tournament and will be starting Bernardo Solipa, who will also serve as head coach. His key targets will be wide receivers Pedro Flores, Wagner Pedroso, and Hugo Lobianche. Anchoring the defense is middle linebacker David “Jardas” Martins.
