LIVESTREAM: Polish Bowl XIII – Wroclaw Panthers v. Bialystok Lowlanders, July 21, 7p (1p EST)
For the first time since 2014, the Wroclaw Panthers will be facing a different opponent in Poland’s Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego (LFA) title game. as the defending champion Panthers take on the Bialystok Lowlanders at Wroclaw’s Olympic Stadium, Saturday July 21.
For the past four years, Wroclaw has played the Gdynia Seahawks in the championship game, having won the game for the last two years.
The Lowlanders defeated Gdynia 33-16 in the semifinals to earn their first ever berth in the final. To reach the final, Wroclaw downed the Tychy Falcons 28-7.
The Panthers breezed through the LFA without dropping a game (8-0) including two easy wins over Bialystok, 37-13 and 62-27. However, Wroclaw has lost both its starting quarterback and a key defensive player since then. The Panthers still won their semifinal playoff game but the Lowlanders represent a much better opponent.
Panthers head coach Nick Johansen will start young Jan Wawrzyniak at quarterback after his successful start in the semifinal win. He threw one touchdown pass and handled the pressure. His two key receivers are Bartek Dziedzic and his brother Tomsz. Both are Polish national team players although Bartek starts at quarterback for Team Poland.
On defense, the front seven is anchored by defensive tackles Simon Adamczyk while Hubert Ogrodowczyk has stepped up at strong side outside linebacker.
For the Lowlanders, head coach John Harper relies on veteran Euro quarterback Ryan Kasdorf with Mikołaj Pawlaczyk at running back. One of Kasdorf’s key receivers is Tomasz Zubrycki.
These are two very well coached teams and even with the changes in personnel, Wroclaw enters the game as slight favorites.
