The Warsaw Mets (2-4) will host the Silesia Rebels Katowice (2-4) in this wildcard playoff Sunday in the Polish Football League. The Mets have rebounded from a 0-4 start to win out and make the post season. Today they’ll face a confident Rebels squad coming off of a 34-0 victory. These two teams met in week two of the season, in that one the Mets missed a two-point conversion and lost a nail biter 20-22.
Silesia and quarterback Jon Mullin have shown flashes of their potential as they’ve played competitive games with top seeded teams such as the Lowlanders and Falcons. Today, they’ll have a chance to show their improvement since the second week of the season against a red hot Mets team.
Warsaw Mets @ Silesia Rebels Katowice, June 27, 14:00 CET (2 pm, 08:00 am ET)
The Rebels defense features Russian linebacker Mikhail Dezin and safety Devion Young. Young is one of the league’s most exciting players. The do-it-all speedster has played quarterback, kick returner, wide receiver, running back, and all over the secondary for this Rebel’s squad. Young and fellow defensive back Haydrein Lynda should help contain a dangerous Warsaw Mets passing attack that likes to go four or five wide and spread the ball around.
The red-hot Warsaw Mets are in the post season after winning their last two games. Quarterback David Ash has been one of the league’s best passers as his accuracy, elusiveness, and experience have made this Mets offense one that can score on any play. Look for the former University of Texas (NCAA D1) starter to be threading the needle against this secondary once again today.
Defensively, linebacker Zachary Blair and this Mets defense will look to contain Rebels running back Bartek Slomka. The Polish back has shown the ability to rip off big runs and pick up tough yards in any situation. Blair’s knack for chasing down running backs and forcing fumbles could be the difference today.
The Mets and Rebels produced a classic game back in April and fans of the Polish football League expect nothing less in this rematch. This time the game will end one unlucky team’s season, while the victor advances one step closer to the Polish Bowl.
