LIVESTREAM: NEFL – Tamworth Phoenix @Copenhagen Towers v. April 28, 4p (10a EST)
The British defending champion Tamworth Phoenix head to Copenhagen, Denmark in their first international football game as they take on the Copenhagen Towers in the second round of the Northern European Football League tournament, Saturday, April 28.
The Towers opened their NEFL schedule two weeks ago with a 21-10 win over Norway’s Oslo Vikings. They have won both their games in the Danish league easily, shutting out the Frederikssund Oaks 40-0 and then whipping the Copenhagen Tomahawks 42-22.
The Phoenix have also looked impressive in their opening game in Great Britain disposing of the Manchester Titans 60-7.
Tamworth head coach Jason Scott is bringing a 45 man roster on the trip with veterans like Stephen Gregory, Chris Thacker and Adam Hope being complemented by first-year players such as Dan Raeburn, Finley Old and Araan Mohandass.
The Phoenix has explosive playmakers on offense, such as quarterback Pat Daley and wide receiver Will Hussey who had three touchdowns in the BritBowl win over the London Blitz. Add to that Sam Huxtable and Marc Bonazebi as well as Ben Burslem and Elliot Walters. On defense, Tamworth has added French U19 International Chris Miyouma, to play alongside veterans Rich Hie and Josh Cooper.
For the Towers, the offseason has also seen the return of most of the starters including All American running back Dayton Winn. Winn collected two touchdowns in the opening day victory and, along with quarterback Patrick Hargett and wide receivers Marcus Bennett, Aske Troen and Philip Thue, will present problems for the Phoenix defense.
After bowing out of the 2017 NEFL with two losses, Towers head coach Peter Herbild would definitely like to see a better performance from his team in this year’s edition of the NEFL
