The Kiev Patriots (0-0) will host the Minsk Zubrs (1-0) Sunday, April 1 in the Monte Clark Cup international tournament at Irpin City in Kiev Oblast, Ukraine.
The Minsk Zubrs are the current leaders in the Monte Clark Cup after opening the 2018 campaign by beating the Vilnius Iron Wolves 31-0.
Zubrs quarterback Keith Ray is the key to the Minsk offense. The former Amsterdam Crusaders signal caller has an outstanding wide receiver to throw to in Laparish Lewis.
Since 2016, the Zubrs record under head coach Pavel Dovnar is 15-1.
Kyiv Patriots are a young team, founded in 2016. They finished the 2016 season 6th in the Ukrainian League of American Football, ULAF, and fourth in 2017. This Patriots held a joint training camp this past offseason together with Poland’s Warsaw Eagles.
The Kiev offense relies on running back Dileel Bartley who is in his second season with the Patriots. The Patriots defensive secondary is anchored by cornerback Aaron Feaver (Slippery Rock) who came to the Ukrainian team after a season with the Moscow Bruins.
The two teams have played each other twice before and the Zubrs won both games, 42-20 and 42-23.
The Monte Clark Cup is an eight team international tournament featuring teams from Russia (Moscow Spartans, St. Petersburg North Legion, Kaliningrad Amber Hawks), the Ukraine (Kiev Patriots, Kiev Rebels), Lithuania (Vilnius Iron Wolves), Estonia (Tartu Titans) and Belarus (Minsk Zubrs).
