The 1-2 Mexico City Mexicas will travel north to Monterrey Friday, February 28 to face the Monterrey Fundidores (2-1) in a cross-conference game in Mexico’s Liga De Futbol Americano (LFA) fourth-round action.
The Fundidores are coming off a big 23-3 win over the Artilleros last week while the Mexicas were edged at home 16-15 by the Toluca Osos. Monterrey opened the season with a 20-14 win over the Toluca Osos but then dropped a 23-15 decision to the Dinos. The Mexicas were beaten 13-5 by the Dinos to open the season but then rebounded with a 26-24 victory over the Artilleros.
Mexico City sits third in the Central Conference while the Fundidores are third in the North.
Fundidores running back Jalen Conwell has carried the load while on linebacker Christian Hernandez anchors the second-best defense in the LFA having allowed only 40 points in three games. Big wide receiver (6’3″, 2005 pounds) Aaron Williams, who helped the Mayas to a championship title in 2017, is a constant threat for opposing defenses.
For the Mexicas, quarterback Ricardo Quintan has formed excellent chemistry with Canadian wide receiver Archelaus Jack. Jack has hauled in four Quintana touchdowns in three games.
