LIVESTREAM: Mexico – Mexico City Condors v. Mexico City Mexicas, Sat. March 7, 12p local time (1p ET, 7p CET)
The unbeaten and defending LFA champion Mexico City Condors (4-0) will face cross-town rivals the Mexico City Mexicas (1-3) Saturday, March 7 as the Liga de Futbol Americano (LFA) heads into its fifth weekend of play.
The Condors are the highest-scoring team in the LFA having scored 111 points but also have one of the top defenses, allowing just 55 points in four games. The Mexicas sit third in the Central Division with an offense that has scored 59 and surrendered 72.
The Condors opened the season with a 29-7 victory over the Pioneros, then downed Osos 27-10, the Artilleros 29-18 and last week beat the Saltillo Dinos 26-20. The Mexicas were beaten 13-5 by the Dinos to open the season but then rebounded with a 26-24 victory over the Artilleros. However, they lost 19-13 last week to the Fundidores.
Condors quarterback Diego Pérez Arvizu (1) is one of the leading passers in the league and with his key receivers Luis David Martínez (11) and Said Salazar (13) he can hurt any defense. Defensively, Mexico City is anchored by defensive lineman César Pérez Durán (92) and linebacker Luis Zárate (26).
For the Condors to win this game against the third highest-scoring offense in the league, they will have to come out stronger than they have in their three games so far. They have been able to produce strong second halves but in this contest, they cannot afford to spot the Dinos too many points. It could cost them.
For the Mexicas, quarterback Ricardo Quintan has formed excellent chemistry with Canadian wide receivers Archelaus Jack and Alex Morrison. Jack has hauled in four Quintana touchdowns in four games. The defensive line features imports Paris Black (3), and Rashad Dillard (44),
