It’s championship time in South Korea, as fans are ready for the 2022 Tiger Bowl, the country’s division one College Football National Championship.
This year, two undefeated teams meet as the Donguei University Turtle Fighters take on the Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) Royals in a highly anticipated title game between two traditional DI powerhouses.
LIVESTREAM: Korean College Football National Championship: Donguei Turtle Fighters vs Sungkyunkwan Royals, December 3rd, 6:00 CET (6 AM, 12 AM ET) )
The Turtle Fighters go into the championship having put together an undefeated season so far going 9-0 by leaning on a strong defense that flies to the ball and creates turnovers. So far this season the Turtle Fighters defense is giving up a mere 2.7 points per game. On the Turtle Fighters‘ offense, look for #1 Gimjuhwan to make some plays as he’s been a key contributor.
In the playoffs, the Donguei Turtle Fighters slipped past the Dankook University Bears in the semifinals winning 20-14. Prior to that, they clobbered Yeongnam University in the quarterfinals winning 41-0 in a dominant defensive outing.
On the other side of the field, the Royals earned their way to the championship by beating the Kyung IL University Black Bears 34-16 in an exciting semifinal. In the quarterfinals, the Royals did just enough to beat the Dongha University Leopards winning 9 to 8 in a defensive slugfest. Head coach Yoon Hye-ryung has also led the Royals to an undefeated record and hopes to add a title to his impressive resume.
Last week against the Black Bears, Royals star player Sejong Min scored two touchdowns and kicked two field goals putting another strong performance together in what has been an incredible season for the young receiver and kicker. In the trenches, fans can expect two-way Kim Jung Hoon to make a big impact as he was named the team’s MVP of the regular season.
At quarterback, Shin Dong-sun hopes to find Sejong Min and keep the Royals offense rolling against a physical Turtle Fighters defense.
Expect a ruckus crowd today as both teams and fans know what is at stake in this Tiger Bowl championship game.
