The Torino Giaguari (2-0) will play host to the Varese Skorpions (1-1) Sunday, March 9 at the Centro Sportivo Totta Borgaretto as the Italian Football League winds up its third weekend of play.

Torino opened the season with two straight wins after beating the Lazio Marines 48-14 and the Ferrara Aquile 20-7.

The Skorpions got by the Aquile 15-12 in their first matchup of the season but were stung 42-6 by Firenze.

Torino quarterback Evan Lewandowsky (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater), has thrown for 456 yards and five touchdowns in the two games while adding 74 yards on the ground. His key targets are Luciano Giuliani who has six catches for 168 yards and a touchdown and Andy Serra who has seven for 129 yards. Tavion McCarthy has caught four passes for 81 yards and three scores.

For Varese, quarterback Hamish McClure (University of Nevada) completed 33 of 68 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns. His leading receiver is Martino Piazzi who has eight catches for 128 yards. Right behind is Roberto Zanovello with nine receptions for 93 yards. The Varese ground game has produced only 131 yards in total but will be needed in this game.

Torino has looked impressive in their opening two wins while the Skorpions are struggling early on in the season. The edge in this one goes to the Giaguari who are tough at home.
