Team Italy will face Serbia Sunday in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy in the IFAF Europe qualifier to determine who advances to play either Sweden or Denmark in the next round in 2017.
Italy downed Israel handily 40-10 Friday while Serbia blanked Team Switzerland 17-0.
Serbia defeated Italy a year ago in an international friendly game in Italy 34-31. In that contest, Serbia fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter but rallied to win the game.
Italy rotated two quarterbacks in the win against Israel. Veteran Tommasso Monardi started and Luke Zahradka relieved him in the second half although Monardi returned late in the half. Zahradka threw for 286 yards and 3 TDs to kick start the Italians in the 2nd half.
Serbia will rely on David Hanomihl-Lukić who played in Serbia’s victory over Switzerland in Friday’s other IFAF Europe qualifying game, and also against Italy last year.
