The Milano Seamen (1-0) head to Bologna to take on the Bologna Warriors (0-1) in the second weekend of play in Italy’s Div. I.
Milano, the defending Italian champions opened the season last week with a 37-0 shut out of the Bergamo Lions. Starting quarterback Luke Zahradka was efficient throwing for 152 yards and three touchdowns. Xavier Mitchell caught only one pass for 45 yards and a touchdown as Zahradka distributed his passes well. f
Bologna is appearing in Italy’s Division I for the first time since 2016 after winning the Division 2 title in 2018.
The Warriors opened their season with a disappointing 40-20 loss to the Lazio Ducks. Bologna actually struck first taking a 14-0 lead with quarterback Nicolò “Willo” Scaglia first finding Mattia Parlangeli for a 17 yard touchdown and hitting Andrea Sangiorgi for a two yard touchdown. However, Lazio battled back and took the lead for good in the third quarter. Bologna running back Ervis Cira scored the third touchdown for the Warriors.
The Warriors have brought in running back James Flanders from Tulsa University. The 5’10”, 200 lb Flanders will add a solid rushing game to the Warriors. Bologna has shored up the defensive secondary with Dontavius Heard (Middle Tennessee State).
