Two of the top offenses in Italy clash Saturday, April 27 when the 4-1 Lazio Ducks travel to Milan to take on the 4-1 Milano Seamen.
The Seamen are averaging 32 points a game while Lazio’s offense has scored 165 points in five games. However, the Milano defense is the stingiest in Italy giving up only 62 points in those five games while Lazio has allowed almost double, 109 points.
Milano looked impressive in the victories over the Bergamo Lions, Bologna Warriors and Ancona Dolphins (29-6) before they were unceremoniously dumped by Parma earlier in April, 22-19. They rebounded though with a huge 34-28 last second win over the Firenze Guelfi.
Seamen quarterback Luke Zahradka has thrown for 1,058 yards and a league-best 16 touchdowns and has two excellent receivers in Xavier Mitchell who has 309 yards receiving, and Stefano Di Tunisi who has recorded 341yards. Milano’s ground game is lagging with Danilo Bonaparte having only gained 202 yards so far in five games.
Lazio bounced back from a disappointing 36-22 loss to the Firenze Guelfi, beating the Bergamo Lions 34-21 and Torinao Giaguari 28-20. The Ducks, under head coach Davide Giuliano, had looked sharp in their two opening wins. They dismantled the Ancona Dolphins beating them easily, 41-12. The Ducks had a solid opening weekend win over the Bologna Warriors the week before, doubling up on them 40-20.
In Lazio’s five games quarterback Tyler Johnson has completed 92 of 136 passes for 1,004 yards and 13 touchdowns, third among all quarterbacks, while running back Mike Gentili has rushed for 301 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Leading receivers for the Ducks have been Tommaso Pozzebon who has had 16 catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns and Gentili with 15 catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Lorenzo Melchiorre has been spectacular at times with 180 yards receiving and five touchdowns, three in the win over the Dolphins. He has also snagged three interceptions, one for a touchdown.
