The Bergamo Lions (0-1) will try to gain their first win of the season in Italy’s Div. 1 when they play host to the 1-0 Bolzano Giants, Sunday March 17 at C.C. Azzano field in Bergamo, Italy.

The Lions opened the season with a tough 37-0 loss to the reigning and back-to-back champions, the Milano Seamen last week. Bolzano, on the other hand, 2018 Italian Bowl finalists, came out 41-7 winners over the Torino Giaguari.

Bergamo head coach Adam Rita may have to rethink his choice in quarterback as young  Andrea Fimiani completed just one pass for five yards in the lopsided loss to Milano. However, Bergamo’s running back, Alexander Germany was solid with 64 yards against the Seamen. 

The Giants QB, Austin Gahafer had a good day in the rout of Torino, completing 17 0f 26 passes for 212 yards and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Mark Simone caught three of those scoring throws with Marco Bonacci  and Vinzenso Gregorio hauling in one apiece. Running back Giacomo Querzola rushed for a modest 49 yards.

If Bergamo cannot get more production out of the quarterback, this will be a tough game for the Lions.
