The 2-1 Lazio Ducks will play host to the 1-2 Bergamo Lions in fourth round action in Italy’s Div. I Sunday, April 7 at CS Arnaldo Fuso Ciampino field in Rome, Italy.
Lazio’s impressive run came to a halt in Florence when they lost 36-22 to the Firenze Guelfi. They had looked very sharp in their two opening wins. The week before, Davide Giuliano’s Ducks dismantled the Ancona Dolphins beating them easily, 41-12. The Ducks had a solid opening weekend win over the Bologna Warriors the week before, doubling up on them 40-20.
In Lazio’s three games quarterback Tyler Johnson has thrown for 644 yards and 10 touchdowns, tops among all quarterbacks, while running back Mike Gentili picked up where he left off in 2018, racking up 249 yards rushing and scoring two touchdowns. Leading receivers for the Ducks have been Tommaso Pozzebon who has had 11 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Gentili with 11 catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Lorenzo Melchiorre has been spectacular at times with 139 yards receiving and five touchdowns, three in the win over the Dolphins.
Bergamo earned their first win of the season in their last outing, beating the Torino Giaguari 30-21. The Lions scored 16 straight points in the third quarter to break open a 14-14 halftime tie and then held on in the fourth for the win.
Lions QB Andrea Fimiani has climbed up into 4th in Italy in passing yardage with 451 yards after throwing for 220 yards in the win over Torino. Alexander Germany is Bergamo’s leading rusher with 188 yards on 51 carries.
This could be a very interesting matchup. Before beating Torino, the Lions had looked impressive in their 28-24 loss to the Bolzano Giants. This game will be a true test for both teams.
